The West Australian Government in partnership with the Mandurah City Council at a cost of $17.5 million completed the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre in 1997. This fit-out included stage equipment, Centre furniture and office equipment.
The 800 seat Performing Arts Centre has state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, full fly tower, sprung stage, and an orchestra pit with a rising floor to allow viewing of all types of productions. A separate 144 seat multi-purpose theatre with retractable seating, overhead rigging bars for the suspension of props with a sprung floor is another major facet of the facility. Set behind the large auditorium is a dance studio with full height mirrors and barre to one wall with a fully sprung floor. Included in the Centre is a C class art gallery with bi-fold doors to allow extra exhibition space with the option of opening into the main foyer. Throughout the facility are inspirationally designed music rooms and four dressing rooms as well as a ‘green room’ for the artist’s relaxation prior to the show. Also in the main structure are a bar, restaurant and an alfresco dining area overlooking the boardwalks and the bay.
The Centre is seen as an icon in the Peel Region.
