Stories that give breath to the elements. Immerse yourself in a sea of stories that ebb and flow around you with intrigue, whimsy and magic.
Listen to the tender heart of Tua the whale, the absurd conversation of the three raindrops and listen to the tale of the boastful herring. These delightful tales and more are performed with an evocative mix of storytelling, puppetry, acoustic music and visual imagery that will leave you with a taste of salt on your lips and a yearning for more. Let go and float on the incoming tide with Jenny Hill and Sandy McKendrick. Perfect for children from 3 years of age and their parents. Perfect for school children. Perfect for people who still enjoy the sea and the life it gives.
Form and Style:
Indigo Sand is a performance for children and their families. It consists of original and traditional water-themed stories gathered from around the globe and delivered by a consummate story teller, Jenny Hill and simultaneously animated by performer Sandy McKendrick. A variety of techniques are used, puppetry, sand art projection, illustration and shadow work. This blend of techniques has proved extremely successful in engaging the audiences’ attention and interest. Jenny Hill accompanies the performance with acoustic music performed on a variety of instruments.
Community and Audience Engagement:
Sandpiper Productions will run a social media campaign prior to and during the tour. We will work with the venues to contact all the schools and other pertinent groups in the area. We will actively work with the presenters to produce marketing that suits their audience. We will develop an arts activity that children can do before we come to town and we will show their work in the foyers/lobbies of the venues. We will contact regional ABC and regional radio stations to arrange interviews. We will work with the local venues to produce media releases for their local papers. We will develop information to go into school newsletters. We can run workshops the day before the show which will lead to more ticket sales. At all venues we will make ourselves available for discussions and demonstrations.

Thankyou for the lovely images and creative sounds. The children were riveted- it was also just the right length for small ones. Please would you do more of these around the suburbs and in schools (poor parents are too busy these days to tell stories like that!)
If you could see their faces! Thanks.
Thanks for a beautiful intriguing performance. We loved the blend of interesting sounds and stories – very evocative. Annette Davis, Finninan and Fjion.
