Mesmerism
Reviews
Here is some of what we have overheard people say, when they were basking amongst the installation when presented in Brisbane in May 20243 (at the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens):
It’s amazing… It’s magic…
It’s so hypnotic…
Oh my gosh it is so beautiful… I could stand here all evening…
I feel like a young child again… This is so much fun…
There’s so many layers going on at the micro and the macro…
I feel so small within the universe, and it feels so liberating…
The interesting thing about this artwork in particular is that it is so real…
It’s like a natural phenomena…
I love how the soundscape is so earthy and dark, it really holds me…
Encore encore… This is pure joy…

Mesmerism is the research, development and production studio of artist Luke Jaaniste.
Mesmerism creates atmospheric, elemental and captivating experiences for people of all ages, in the form of large-scale immersive installations and performances in public spaces. The materials used include theatrical and industrial effects of fog, fog-filled bubbles, light, wind and air machines, and surround-sound specially-composed ambient music-scapes. The spaces that Mesmerism creates within are diverse and intriguing, both outside and indoors, including: botanic gardens, river promenades, open air carpark rooftops, huge empty warehouses, and more.
The goal of Mesmerism is as big, beautiful, and basic -- to transform public spaces into expansive, elongated and elemental enchantment zones. The experiences offered are joyous, contemplative and unique.
Recent appearances in festivals and events include: Botanica (Brisbane May 2023), Now or Never (Melbourne Aug 2023), Strange Festival (City of Perth, June 2024) and Re//Perth (City of Perth, July 2024).
