Reviews

“This was one of the most powerful, impactful and moving performances I have ever seen. It was an incredible reclaiming and decolonizing piece of work. It made me proud to be Australian to see that such important work is being supported to be Aboriginal lead and made me hopeful for a better future across all areas of society if many other areas start to also support and enable Aboriginal led work. It will be a much healthier and happier place for all, and that was shown in this creation!”

“Beautiful voices and loved listening to indigenous language.”

“Amazing production! Emotionally engaging. These are the stories that need to be told. MORE PLEASE!”

Company Bio

West Australian Opera (WAO) was established in 1967 and has been Western Australia's
state opera company for nearly 60 years. WAO is a not-for-profit organisation based in Boorloo (Perth).

WAO's purpose and vision is:

1. West Australian Opera seeks to speak to the heart of the human voice. We want to share the joy of music through opera and the powerful stories opera tells. It is magic. It is beautiful. It touches souls and minds and we have a dream for its future

2. We want to be part of the audience engagement experience in schools, homes,
communities, regions and the traditional environment of the theatre.
3. We are uniquely and proudly West Australian. We present world-class, diverse, innovative works that bring audiences and artists together to celebrate sung stories that are relevant
to our people, time and places.

4. We foster innovation, collaboration, sustainability, and the development of the artform

5. We have presented opera in Western Australia since 1967 and we expect to continue the tradition of the artform as well as presenting opera in new and diverse ways
