Looking In Our Own Backyard – Audience Research

Marketing & Audience Development, Policies & Procedures, Research, Venue Operations
This resource is the next in our Audience Development series. It follows on from the research already undertaken across Western Australia, in determining why people do not like to attend non- commercial performing arts. The intention is to grow audiences by looking to the barriers that stand in the way of attendance. We have no magic wand to attract those who do not like performing arts and we need to accept this fact. Instead, we seek to determine barriers that stand in the way of attendance and, hopefully, show how organisations have sought to remove or minimise these factors to grow audiences. The questions asked in this research were developed from intelligence gained from participants in focus groups across Western Australian in 2018/2019, and the topics covered were those raised in group after group.
