With and For

‘With and For’ is an experience of awe inspiring skills, comedy and generosity mixed together into a spectacular circus show, starring professional circus performers – and members of your community.

Artists from Natural Wings perform breathtaking aerial acts, as well as engaging with the audience. Performing alongside these award winning artists are members from your community, who share their hearts onstage, and perform spectacular skills to their home crowd. Sometimes the little ones are invited onstage to help out the MC as well.

This is an event to bring your community together, as we create it with and for you.

FORM AND STYLE

An Aerial Rig creates the stage space, with classy decorations and festoon lighting to invite you in. Stilt walkers meet you and assist you to your seats or picnic blankets. Artists chat with the audience as friends after spending many weeks in the community.

The show itself is run by an MC, and involves many ‘acts’ throughout the night, some from Natural Wings artists, some from the community. All involve circus and creativity, with a theme of hope and joy. The audience is welcomed to mingle afterwards, with food available from local sporting groups.

Although the event is one night, the project itself is a residency, and many people from the community are involved and affected by it.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

This work is dependent on community engagement.

Two artist from Natural Wings will work with a school/ community group for up to 4 weeks to create group acts for the event. The skills can include acrobatics, creative movement and juggling/manipulation. Workshops are also available to non-performing participants and adults too.

In production week, 2 more artists join the team, to meet and rehearse with the community so that everyone is ready for the big day.

Note: The project is adaptable, and can also be condensed if we can work with the same groups daily. It can also include more participants by having more artists involved.

CREDITS

Natural Wings is a multi-award-winning company creating aerial dance theatre works since 2006. Directed by Dawn Pascoe, Natural Wings are internationally renowned for aerial artistry, creative choreography, and wearing their hearts on their sleeves. The most notable highlights are; winning the Toronto Buskerfest – one of the largest Street art festivals in the world; Joondalup Festival commissioned event ‘Take Flight’ where picnickers enjoyed a sunset by the sea with live entertainment, aerial dance and comedy; Producing tours to the outback including dry river beds and cattle yards; Pingelly Circus Spectacular which was created with and for a regional community; Sharing art and heart at 100’s of festivals and site specific locations throughout WA; producing and devising 10 full length aerial dance works, many of which toured internationally to prestigious aerial dance festivals; sustaining a self-produced, creative, physical career for 18 years and counting.
